REGO IS OPEN NOW at SLS.COM.AU/JOIN
Give Nippers a try… the kids will love it and parents too, as the whole family learns to be surf aware and builds the foundation skills to keep safe in the ocean as well as becoming part of a great local community surf club
The Surf Life Saving Australia Nippers program is designed to teach children between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age, the basics of surf beach and open water safety, helping kids gain a basic knowledge of water safety, which is vital when swimming at the beach.
Nipper activities are based around Surf Life Saving Australia’s National Surf Education program structured specifically to the ages and abilities of the children by gradually teaching them the basic lifesaving skills required to be safe around an aquatic environment as well as developing their skills and confidence to compete in surf sports in an environment which is fun, encouraging, inclusive and SAFE. They also learn about managing the beach environment and some basic first aid skills. Nippers will start with the compulsory all ages water evaluations at Bomaderry Pool on 20 October at 12pm First day at the beach is 27 October 9.30am and will be a fun “Try Nippers” session and BBQ.
Shoalhaven Heads Surf Club Nippers is held weekly on Sundays at Shoalhaven Heads Beach. .Each session starts at 9.30 am with age group muster and the session sign on. Parents must sign kids in and out with their age manager at the start and end of activities every week and parents are also expected to stay at the immediate beach club area during Nippers.
SLSA has a “parent joins too” policy and we encourage all parents to get involved in helping out and soon you’ll find you can have as much fun at Surf Club as the kids do. Without parents volunteering to help each week as Age Managers, water safety or to get kit ready and packed down each session we can’t run Nippers. There are off beach things you can do to help to like uniform sales and BBQ and of end of morning sweep up
Nippers are split into Age group’s from Under 6 to 13. As we are a small club, we run multi age groups together depending on the number of children registered each season. Each Age Group is run one of our volunteer Age Managers supported by the water safety team. Our age managers are parent too and we’ll need a few more to raise hands to commit to help out every week. All age managers complete a basic awareness and training course.
We are registering for the updated NSW ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHER SCHEME https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/active-kids so you can register for this and then use your child’s voucher for their annual membership fee. Info is on the membership page.
We have policies and procedures in place for maintaining safe activities for all members of the club that reflect current multi government advice and developed in partnership with Surf life Saving Australia and Surf Life Saving NSW, our governing bodies and NSW Government
Check season calendar schedule tab for important dates and the JAC Team will also update parents during the Nippers morning start muster for what we have planned each week or coming up.
We also have an online calendar for nipper and club social and other events and also use email or social media to update members
